She annoys me greatly, and so I stopped reading the book. While it is a continuation of Brethrenand follows many of the characters introduced in the first novel, it does have its own specific plot line. The trial the king masterminded was, scholars believe, an attempt to secure their wealth for himself. With page-turning suspense and thrilling action, the Brethren trilogy brilliantly evokes that extraordinary clash of civilizations known in the West as the Crusades.

The Pillars of the Earth hardly boasted good writing from Follett but the difference is that I believed in that story. The author appears to have done a really decent job of research and recreating the period. The book has a sequel written by the same author. Other books in the series. I believed in the characters. Youn This could and should have been so much better. I have read other novels where Baybars, the Mamluk leader of Egypt was the main character and her interpretation of him and his motives was just as believable.

The thirteenth century is robgn and excitingly evoked Overall, it was more than a worthwhile read, having piqued my curiosity for the next two books in the story of Will Campbell and the Knights. I finished this one, and will probably buy the next one. Brethren Trilogy Book 2.
